Trump has launched what he calls the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country, targeting Iran with unprecedented isolation measures. In a recent Truth Social post, the US president declared this an economic D-day and urged allies to cut off every form of support to Tehran.

He stated that no one had offered Iran a better chance at a deal than him, yet Tehran failed to accept it. According to Trump, Iran’s navy is destroyed, its air force is gone, military factories lie in ruins, and its currency has become worthless. He warned that any nation allowing financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government bodies to provide even a small lifeline to Iran will face tremendous economic consequences.

Specific activities under the spotlight include oil smuggling, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and front companies. Trump demanded that all of these stop immediately. He believes these steps will severely limit Iran’s ability to project terror around the world and repeated his firm position that Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon.

This announcement follows mixed signals about possible talks. Trump had earlier left the door open for negotiations at some point, while Iranian leaders insist any dialogue must respect their sovereignty and take place from a position of strength. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that negotiation is not surrender and that talks should aim to end the conflict, lift the siege, and free blocked resources. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf took a sharper tone, calling the United States the main cause of regional problems.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir to discuss regional developments and political solutions. Trump also claimed the Strait of Hormuz remains open, with vessels still passing through despite an effective US naval blockade.

Tensions over the conflict, the strategic waterway, and Iran’s nuclear program continue to shape the search for a diplomatic path forward. The new economic measures mark a clear escalation aimed at isolating Tehran on every front.
