Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan today for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and discussing recent diplomatic developments following the first round of US-Iran negotiations in Switzerland.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, President Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers and senior government officials. During his stay in Islamabad, he is expected to hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and other senior Pakistani leaders, including the chairman of the Senate, the speaker of the National Assembly, and the deputy prime minister.

The visit comes shortly after talks between Tehran and Washington, which were facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar, reportedly produced encouraging results. Iranian officials said one of the key objectives of President Pezeshkian’s trip is to express appreciation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for Pakistan’s mediation efforts that helped bring both sides to the negotiating table.

Officials from both countries are expected to review the entire spectrum of bilateral relations. Discussions will focus on trade, energy cooperation, border management, regional connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges. The two sides are also likely to discuss progress made under the recently signed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, along with regional and global issues of mutual concern.

Meanwhile, mediators announced that the United States and Iran agreed on a roadmap aimed at achieving a final agreement within 60 days. Technical-level negotiations are expected to continue in Switzerland in the coming days.

US Vice President JD Vance described the initial discussions as a positive step and said Tehran had agreed to allow International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors back into the country, calling it an important milestone. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also welcomed the outcome of the talks, describing the discussions as constructive and reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts that contribute to regional peace, stability, and long-term cooperation.
