Field Marshal Munir, Ghana Military Chief Discuss Defence Cooperation

Pakistan and Ghana have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence ties, with both sides expressing a shared interest in expanding cooperation in key military sectors.

According to a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Defence Staff of Ghana Lieutenant General William Agyapong met Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Thursday.

During the meeting, the two military leaders discussed a range of issues related to regional security, mutual interests, and opportunities to deepen cooperation between their armed forces. They agreed to enhance military to military relations by focusing on joint training programmes, counter terrorism initiatives, and collaboration in the field of defence production.

The discussions reflected a mutual desire to broaden defence engagement and strengthen institutional partnerships between Pakistan and Ghana. Both sides acknowledged the importance of increased military cooperation in addressing evolving security challenges and promoting stability in their respective regions.

The visiting Ghanaian military chief praised the Pakistan Armed Forces for their professionalism, operational capabilities, and continued contribution to maintaining peace and stability in the region. He also appreciated Pakistan’s experience in dealing with complex security challenges and its commitment to international peace efforts.

Separately, National Security Coordinator of Ghana Abdul Razak Osman held meetings with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu. Lieutenant General William Agyapong also attended these engagements, which highlighted the growing defence relationship between the two countries.

Earlier in the day, the Ghanaian delegation received a warm welcome upon arriving at GHQ. A smartly turned out tri services contingent presented a guard of honour, underscoring the significance of the visit and Pakistan’s intention to further strengthen military diplomacy with African nations.

The latest interactions demonstrate Pakistan’s continued efforts to expand strategic partnerships and foster meaningful defence cooperation with friendly countries around the world.
