Pakistan has urged all parties involved in the escalating Middle East crisis to exercise restraint and prioritize diplomacy, warning that continued hostilities could further destabilize an already fragile region. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad emphasized the urgent need to prevent further conflict and create opportunities for meaningful dialogue.
The ambassador expressed concern over the recent surge in violence, stating that the worsening situation highlights the dangers of fragile ceasefires and unresolved disputes. According to Pakistan, the ongoing cycle of confrontation threatens not only regional stability but also global peace, security, and economic prosperity.
A major point of concern raised by Pakistan was the impact of renewed tensions on the Iran nuclear issue. Ambassador Asim noted that the breakdown of diplomatic engagement has widened differences between the concerned parties and complicated efforts by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to carry out its verification responsibilities. He stressed that all outstanding disputes should be resolved through peaceful negotiations, constructive diplomacy, and mutual respect for international obligations.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions across the Middle East. The ambassador revealed that Islamabad has remained actively engaged with regional and international partners, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkiye, Qatar, and China, to promote dialogue and encourage peaceful solutions.
According to the envoy, Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts are focused on stopping violence, protecting civilian lives, and creating conditions that allow negotiations to move forward. He emphasized that diplomacy remains the most effective path toward achieving long-term peace and stability.
As discussions on critical regional issues continue, Pakistan has called on all stakeholders to remain patient and avoid actions that could worsen the situation. Ambassador Asim concluded by urging the international community to support dialogue and “give peace a little more chance,” highlighting that sustainable peace can only be achieved through cooperation, understanding, and diplomatic engagement.
