Pakistan is taking significant steps to improve its aviation network by accelerating the restoration of several inactive airports across the country. The initiative aims to enhance regional air connectivity, facilitate travel, support economic growth, and improve access to remote areas.

According to sources, a high level meeting was held at the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) headquarters in Karachi under the chairmanship of Director General Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed. Senior officials from airport services, engineering, and commercial departments participated in the discussions regarding the revival of dormant airport facilities.

During the meeting, authorities prioritized the operational restoration of Turbat Airport, Dalbandin Airport, Dera Ismail Khan Airport, and Saidu Sharif Airport. Officials were also instructed to review and expedite work related to Sukkur Airport, New Gwadar Airport, and other aviation facilities that require operational improvements.

The move is part of a broader strategy led by the Ministry of Defence and the Pakistan Airports Authority to modernize aviation infrastructure and provide better transportation links between major cities and underserved regions. Improved airport operations are expected to increase passenger convenience, encourage tourism, and create new business opportunities in various parts of the country.

A notable development in this effort was the recent restoration of Dera Ismail Khan Airport, which resumed operations after remaining inactive for several years. Authorities view this achievement as a positive step toward bringing more airports back into service nationwide.

Sources further revealed that the Ministry of Defence has directed the PAA to speed up restoration work at all non operational airports to ensure that aviation services can reach more communities. The meeting also included discussions regarding a new private airline, although specific details have not yet been disclosed.

The Pakistan Airports Authority, established on August 9, 2024, continues to focus on improving airport management, operational efficiency, and infrastructure development to strengthen Pakistan’s aviation sector and support future growth.
