Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has officially moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to challenge her brother’s alleged solitary confinement. The petition, filed through legal experts Barrister Salman Safdar and Salman Akram Raja, argues that the former prime minister is being held in conditions that lack any judicial authorization.
The legal plea emphasizes that while Imran Khan has been incarcerated at Adiala Jail for over 1,000 days, no court has ever issued a sentence mandating incommunicado detention. The petition further alleges that authorities are obstructing legal consultations, specifically preventing lawyers from meeting the PTI founder to sign essential power of attorney documents. Aleema Khan maintains that these restrictive measures are a direct violation of Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution of Pakistan, which protect the right to life and the dignity of man.
Concerns regarding the deteriorating health of the 73-year-old leader have also been a central theme for his family and party leadership. Following recent eye procedures for both Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, supporters have intensified demands for their transfer to a hospital for specialized medical care under the supervision of personal doctors. Although the federal government and jail administration have consistently denied claims of mistreatment, the petition seeks a formal declaration from the IHC to label the current confinement as illegal and unlawful.
Since his removal from office in April 2022, the former premier has faced a barrage of legal challenges, ranging from state gift allegations to marriage cases. Despite several convictions being suspended or overturned, he remains in custody as various appeals continue to move through the higher courts.
