Young Pakistan opener Azan Awais made a memorable start to his international career by scoring a brilliant century on his Test debut against Bangladesh at the Sher e Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The talented left handed batter achieved the milestone on Sunday during the first Test of the away series and immediately earned a place among Pakistan cricket’s promising stars.
Starting the third day unbeaten on 85, Azan showed excellent composure and maturity at the crease. He reached his century in the 51st over of Pakistan’s innings after taking a single off Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana. His achievement was celebrated by teammates and fans as the 21 year old became the 14th Pakistan batter to score a century on Test debut.
Azan Awais also entered an exclusive list of legendary Pakistan cricketers including Javed Miandad, Younis Khan, and Fawad Alam, all of whom scored hundreds in their debut Test matches. Former Pakistan batter Khalid Ibadulla was the first player from the country to achieve this feat back in 1964 against Australia.
The young opener created another special record by becoming only the third Pakistani batter to score a century on Test debut in overseas conditions. Previously, Umar Akmal and Fawad Alam had accomplished the same achievement during matches in New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
Azan’s impressive innings finally ended when experienced Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed dismissed him shortly after he crossed the hundred mark. The left hander scored 103 runs off 165 balls, smashing 14 boundaries during his outstanding knock.
His confident batting display has given Pakistan cricket fans hope for a bright future. With solid technique, patience, and attacking stroke play, Azan Awais has announced himself as an exciting new talent in the national Test squad.
