Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan’s strong military response during Marka-e-Haq forced India to seek a ceasefire after tensions escalated in May 2025. Speaking at a grand ceremony held at the Pakistan Monument to mark the first anniversary of the conflict, the premier praised the armed forces for their courage, professionalism, and swift action during the 19-day confrontation.

The event was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, senior military leadership, political figures, and government officials. During his speech, the prime minister observed a one-minute silence to honour the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defence of the country.

PM Shehbaz rejected India’s allegations regarding the Pahalgam incident and said Pakistan had repeatedly offered a transparent investigation. However, according to him, India chose aggression instead of dialogue. He stated that Pakistan’s armed forces responded with full strength, and the country’s air force successfully dominated the skies during the conflict.

The prime minister announced that May 10 would now be observed every year as Youm-e-Marka-e-Haq to remember the nation’s unity and resilience. He especially praised Field Marshal Asim Munir along with the chiefs of the air force and navy for their leadership roles during the crisis.

The premier also thanked friendly countries, including Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, China, and the United States, for supporting peace efforts and helping reduce tensions between the two nuclear neighbours. He acknowledged the diplomatic role played by US President Donald Trump in achieving a ceasefire.

Addressing the gathering, President Zardari described May 10 as a golden chapter in Pakistan’s history. He praised the armed forces for defending the nation and reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued political and diplomatic support for the people of Kashmir and Palestine.

The ceremony concluded with patriotic tributes, national songs, and renewed pledges for unity, peace, and national progress.
