Islamabad is expected to host the next round of US Iran technical talks on July 14 and 15, according to government sources. The upcoming discussions are aimed at maintaining diplomatic momentum and addressing several key issues that could help strengthen stability in the Middle East.

Officials familiar with the matter said that technical experts from the United States and Iran will participate in the third round of negotiations. Pakistan will once again play the role of a mediator, working alongside regional partners to help both sides continue constructive dialogue.

Previous rounds of technical discussions were held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, and Doha, Qatar. Reports indicate that the Islamabad meeting will primarily focus on US sanctions on Iran, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and progress on the Iranian nuclear programme.

Sources also revealed that the final level of the Iranian delegation will be determined after the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Despite this, preparations for the talks are reportedly moving forward.

The planned meeting follows what officials described as positive indirect negotiations held recently in Doha. During those discussions, representatives from both countries examined issues related to maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, the release of Iranian funds, and mechanisms for implementing the memorandum signed in June.

That memorandum of understanding, brokered by Pakistan and Qatar, introduced a 60 day ceasefire following months of conflict that began after US and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets in February. It also reopened the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route, while creating a framework for future negotiations on regional security, reconstruction efforts, and nuclear matters.

According to participating officials, both sides also agreed to establish a communication channel for reporting possible violations of the agreement. Iranian representatives stated that discussions included the phased release of frozen assets, with part of an initial 6 billion dollars expected to be used for purchasing essential goods.

If the Islamabad meeting proceeds as planned, it could represent another significant step toward reducing regional tensions through continued diplomacy, dialogue, and international cooperation.
