NCCIA Lahore has taken strong action against an organised cybercrime gang that was cheating ordinary people by pretending to be government officers. On Wednesday the agency announced the arrest of three members of this group in Lahore. The suspects had been contacting citizens, claiming that suspicious activity had been found in their bank accounts and threatening to freeze or block those accounts unless money was paid.

The arrested men are Muhammad Arif, Muhammad Younis Sajid and Muhammad Nadeem. According to investigators, the gang used fear as their main weapon. They would call people and introduce themselves as officials from different government departments. After creating panic about possible account blockage, they demanded payment to “fix” the problem. In one case alone they managed to extract Rs15 million from a woman who believed their story.

After receiving the complaint, NCCIA Lahore started a detailed investigation. Officers collected evidence, tracked the suspects and finally arrested all three. When the devices recovered from them were examined, more than twelve fake accounts came to light. These accounts were allegedly being used to receive and move the money collected through fraud. Investigators are now studying the transaction records and the people connected to these accounts to understand how large the network really is.

This case highlights how carefully planned online fraud has become in Pakistan. Criminals no longer need to meet victims face to face. A simple phone call and a convincing story are often enough to trick people into transferring large sums. Many victims stay silent out of embarrassment or fear, which allows such gangs to continue operating for a long time.

The NCCIA has urged the public to remain alert. No genuine government agency or bank will ever demand money over the phone to keep an account open. Citizens who receive such calls should immediately hang up, note the number if possible, and report the matter to the nearest NCCIA office or through official helplines. Quick reporting can help stop these criminals before more people lose their hard-earned money.

With these three arrests, NCCIA Lahore has sent a clear message that organised cybercrime will not be tolerated. Further investigations are continuing and more people linked to the same network may face action soon. Public awareness and timely complaints remain the strongest tools against this growing threat.
