Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a major diplomatic breakthrough after confirming that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran has been finalized following extensive negotiations and international mediation efforts. The development is being viewed as a significant step toward restoring stability in the Middle East after months of escalating tensions and military confrontations.

According to the prime minister, both nations have agreed to an immediate and permanent end to military operations across all fronts, including conflict-related activities connected to Lebanon. The formal signing ceremony of the agreement is expected to take place in Switzerland on June 19, where representatives from both countries will officially endorse the memorandum of understanding.

Shehbaz Sharif praised the leadership of Qatar for its important role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides. He also acknowledged the contributions of Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, stating that their diplomatic efforts helped create an environment conducive to constructive negotiations.

US President Donald Trump later confirmed that the agreement had been completed, describing it as a historic achievement that could bring long-term peace and security to the region. He announced that the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes, would reopen following the signing of the deal. The United States is also expected to end restrictions on Iranian ports, allowing global trade and energy supplies to flow more freely.

Iranian officials have indicated that additional discussions will take place during a proposed 60-day ceasefire period. Future negotiations are expected to focus on sanctions relief, economic cooperation, and matters related to Iran’s nuclear program.

The agreement has received support from several international leaders. Qatar welcomed the breakthrough and thanked Pakistan and other mediators for their efforts. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also welcomed the development, emphasizing the importance of restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and maintaining regional security.

The deal is widely regarded as a positive step toward reducing tensions, improving diplomatic relations, and promoting peace across the Middle East.
