The United Kingdom government has announced a £10 million security fund aimed at protecting mosques and Muslim community centers across the country. The initiative seeks to strengthen safety measures, prevent hate crimes, and ensure that worshippers can practice their faith without fear.
As part of this program, mosques and Islamic faith centers will receive assistance to install CCTV systems, alarm networks, secure fencing, and trained security staff. This funding will expand the existing Protective Security for Mosques Scheme, which has already enhanced security in many regions.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer reaffirmed that every individual in the UK deserves to feel safe when practicing their religion, emphasizing that religious freedom and safety remain core national values. He stated that hate or violence based on faith will never be tolerated.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood echoed this commitment, highlighting the government’s dedication to standing beside Muslim communities and recognizing their vital contributions to British society.
The British Muslim Trust praised the move, calling it a timely and crucial step to boost confidence and unity among Muslims amid rising reports of faith-based hate crimes.
