A prominent religious scholar, Mufti Jana Mir, lost his life in a bomb explosion in Lower South Waziristan on Monday. Police confirmed the tragic incident that shocked the local community.
DSP Wana Circle Asghar Ali Shah stated that the blast took place on the ground floor of a supermarket in the busy Rustam Bazaar. Mufti Mir received critical injuries and was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his wounds during treatment.
A large number of police personnel arrived at the scene soon after the explosion. They immediately cordoned off the entire area to secure the site. Investigators collected forensic evidence and started a detailed inquiry into the attack.
According to the DSP, preliminary findings indicate that the bomb had been planted in advance. The apparent target of the explosion was Mufti Jana Mir himself. Police are now working to identify those responsible and uncover the motive behind the deadly attack.
This incident comes just three days after another violent episode in the region. Unidentified gunmen shot and killed Maulana Ismail, a leader linked to Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, in Azam Warsak Bazaar of Birmal tehsil. The back-to-back attacks have raised serious concerns about security in South Waziristan.
Local residents expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the respected scholar. Many gathered near the hospital and the blast site to mourn. Authorities have assured the public that the investigation will continue with full force until the perpetrators are brought to justice.
