Florentino Perez has successfully retained the presidency of Real Madrid after facing his first serious election challenge in nearly two decades. The veteran club president secured another four year term following a closely watched vote that attracted significant attention from members and football fans around the world.

According to the official results, Perez received 65% of the vote, while challenger Enrique Riquelme earned 35% support from club members. More than 33,000 eligible members participated in the election held at Real Madrid’s training complex in Valdebebas, making it one of the most significant presidential contests in recent club history.

The election was called earlier than expected despite Perez still having two years remaining in his mandate. The decision came after Real Madrid endured a disappointing season without major trophies while rivals Barcelona successfully retained the La Liga title.

Following his victory, Perez described the result as an extraordinary achievement and thanked members for their continued trust. He emphasized the club’s stability, transparency, and long term vision while promising to maintain Real Madrid’s position among the world’s leading football institutions.

During the campaign, Perez unveiled ambitious plans for the future, including major investments in the squad and potential high profile appointments. He also defended proposals aimed at strengthening the club’s financial position while insisting that Real Madrid’s member owned structure would remain unchanged.

His opponent, Enrique Riquelme, campaigned on a platform focused on increasing member involvement and opposing any plans that could potentially open the door to outside investment. Although unsuccessful, Riquelme’s strong showing demonstrated growing interest among members in the club’s future direction.

Real Madrid remains one of the most valuable sports organizations in the world, generating billions in revenue and maintaining a global fan base. Perez’s victory ensures continuity in leadership as the club prepares for another competitive season and future development projects both on and off the field.
