Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has urged Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to withdraw his recent remarks regarding martyrs, describing the statement as inappropriate. However, Sanaullah said he does not believe the comments were made with any long term agenda and suggested they were expressed in the heat of the moment.

Speaking during Geo News programme Naya Pakistan, Sanaullah said that although the remarks were regrettable, they should not be viewed as part of a broader campaign against the country’s security forces. He stressed that withdrawing the statement would be a positive move and could help reduce unnecessary political tension.

The controversy has already reached the courts. A petition filed in Gujranwala seeks the registration of an FIR against Fazlur Rehman over his comments. The court has directed both the police and the JUI-F chief to submit their responses. In a separate development, a Lahore sessions court also issued a notice to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) after another petition requested legal action regarding the same remarks.

Discussing the recent terrorist attack in Hanna Urak, Rana Sanaullah said many local residents expressed their willingness to stand alongside security personnel in the fight against terrorism. He added that there should be no objection to helping local communities develop basic self defence capabilities to protect themselves from militant threats when required.

Turning to the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, Sanaullah said the issue of the assembly’s 12 reserved seats should be resolved by the newly elected legislature. He also expressed confidence that the PML-N would perform strongly in the elections and claimed the party is well positioned to secure victory across all constituencies.

The adviser emphasized that political disagreements should be handled responsibly while maintaining respect for the sacrifices of the country’s martyrs and security forces.
