Rana Sanaullah, Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs, has urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to rejoin parliamentary committees and engage in dialogue to ease the current political tensions. In a recent appearance on Geo News’ program Naya Pakistan, Sanaullah emphasized that PTI should resume its full role in parliament by participating in the standing committees, as cooperation and dialogue are essential for finding solutions to the country’s challenges.

Sanaullah noted that PTI leaders also believed that solutions could be reached through parliamentary discussions and mutual trust-building. He suggested that PTI’s cooperation would help foster an environment of confidence and political stability. He also acknowledged the positive steps taken by the government and expressed hope that PTI would mirror these efforts to strengthen political relations.

Regarding the opposition leadership in the National Assembly, Sanaullah revealed that the National Assembly speaker had officially recognized Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the opposition leader after consulting opposition members. Achakzai’s nomination followed the disqualification of Omar Ayub, who was sentenced to ten years in prison in a case related to the May 9 events.

Sanaullah further mentioned that both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PML-N president Nawaz Sharif hold positive views about Achakzai, acknowledging his party’s support during challenging times. However, he was unaware of any direct communication between Achakzai and Nawaz.

On a separate note, Sanaullah shared that the Senate opposition leader’s appointment process would commence next week upon the return of the Senate chairman. He also highlighted that despite ongoing political negotiations, PTI’s February 8 protest plans were unlikely to be called off.
