The Punjab government has introduced new winter school timings for all public and private institutions across the province, effective from November 3, 2025, to January 31, 2026. Strict penalties have been announced for any schools violating the new rules, with fines reaching up to Rs. 500,000 for those that open before the allowed time.

Under the updated schedule, single-shift schools will begin classes at 8:45 AM and end at 1:30 PM from Monday to Thursday, while Fridays will have an early closing time of 12:30 PM to accommodate Friday prayers. The change has been made to protect students and teachers from the cold winter mornings and improve comfort during the chilly season.

For double-shift schools, the morning session will also start at 8:45 AM, while the second session will run from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM between Monday and Thursday, and from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Fridays. The Education Department has directed all schools to follow these timings strictly, warning of legal action against any violations.

Authorities stated that this step aims to safeguard students from cold and smog, both of which intensify during winter. Parents have welcomed the decision, appreciating the government’s focus on children’s health and safety. Officials believe the new policy will ensure a comfortable and healthier learning environment throughout the winter season.
