The political landscape in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) witnessed a significant development as the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) officially announced its support for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the formation of a coalition government in the region. The announcement was made during a joint press conference held in Gilgit, where leaders of both parties expressed optimism about the future of the province.

Speaking to the media, IPP Gilgit-Baltistan President Haji Gul Bar Khan confirmed that his party would become part of the PPP-led alliance. He stated that further details regarding the partnership would be finalized by the central leadership of the participating political parties.

Meanwhile, PPP Gilgit-Baltistan President Amjad Hussain welcomed the alliance and described it as a positive step toward ensuring political stability, economic growth, and development in the region. According to him, cooperation between the PPP, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and IPP will create a stronger framework for governance and help address the challenges faced by the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Amjad Hussain also announced that the formal process of government formation would begin on Monday. His remarks came a day after the PPP and PML-N reached a power-sharing agreement. Under the arrangement, the position of Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan will be held by the PPP, while the office of the Governor will be assigned to the PML-N.

The agreement also outlines that the Leader of the Opposition in the GB Assembly will belong to the PML-N, while the party will also receive the position of Deputy Speaker.

In the June 7 elections, the PPP emerged as the largest political party by securing nine seats in the 24-member assembly. The PML-N won six seats, while several independent candidates later joined the IPP. Political observers believe this alliance could provide the numbers needed for a stable government and pave the way for smoother governance and development initiatives across Gilgit-Baltistan.
