Mir Raza Ali exhumation delayed after family objects to medical board
The planned exhumation of young businessman Mir Raza Ali was postponed on Friday in Karachi. His family refused to allow the process to continue because they do not accept the newly formed medical board.
Mir Raza Ali, an IBA graduate, left home on the night of July 28 after returning from his shop. He told his family he would be back in ten minutes. Police later found his body in bushes in Block 1 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar. An initial medical assessment reported a gunshot wound to the chest. The preliminary post-mortem estimated the body was 24 to 36 hours old at the time of examination.
Family lawyer Jibran Nasir told reporters that a third notification had been issued about the medical board. Officials merged the first and second boards to create a new panel. Nasir said the family rejects this latest board and continues to trust the doctors named in the earlier notification.
He confirmed that Ali’s parents have recorded their statements before the investigating officer. Nasir alleged political interference in the case and questioned why members of the original eight-member medical board were removed. He said repeated changes in the notifications have caused serious concern for the family.
The lawyer informed the judicial magistrate that the new medical board is not acceptable. He claimed the delays are intentional and that those behind the changes have only succeeded in postponing the process for now.
Nasir also raised questions about the CCTV footage. He said different clips are being shown selectively. One clip shows a person collecting garbage and a motorcycle passing near the spot where the body was found. He insisted that everyone who passed through the location must be examined.
A day earlier, a judicial magistrate had approved the father’s plea for a fresh post-mortem. The police surgeon confirmed an eight-member board would handle the exhumation, which was scheduled for 9 am on Friday. However, Nasir said provincial authorities changed the board overnight. He sent an emergency notice to the police surgeon and Sindh health secretary, arguing that only the relevant divisional police surgeon had the authority to form the board.
The family remains firm in its opposition and continues to demand a transparent process free from interference.
