The Government of Pakistan has clarified the latest Nicop travel rules, confirming that overseas Pakistanis holding a valid National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (Nicop) can continue to enter Pakistan without obtaining a visa. However, travellers with an expired, cancelled, or invalid Nicop will now be required to secure a valid Pakistani visa before boarding their flight.
The clarification came after reports circulated on social media claiming that British passport holders with Nicop would no longer be allowed to enter Pakistan. A government spokesperson rejected these reports, describing them as false and misleading, and emphasized that the updated policy applies equally to passengers travelling from the United Kingdom, the United States, Europe, and other countries.
According to the revised travel instructions, overseas Pakistanis travelling on a foreign passport must ensure that their Nicop remains valid. If the card has expired or has been cancelled, they must obtain either a Pakistani visa or travel using a valid Pakistani passport before departure.
The government has also instructed airlines not to allow passengers to board flights to Pakistan if they fail to meet these entry requirements. Carriers have been advised to verify travel documents before boarding and ensure that all passengers are informed about the latest regulations to avoid inconvenience at airports.
Officials stressed that the policy does not affect individuals who possess a valid Nicop, as they will continue to enjoy visa free entry under the existing immigration framework. The purpose of the updated instructions is to ensure proper documentation while preventing confusion caused by inaccurate information circulating online.
Authorities have further directed airline station managers to brief their staff thoroughly so that passengers receive accurate guidance before travelling. The government urged overseas Pakistanis to verify the validity of their Nicop well in advance of their journey to avoid delays or denied boarding.
The clarification aims to reassure the overseas Pakistani community while ensuring that immigration procedures remain smooth, secure, and consistent for all international travellers entering Pakistan.
