PMD Forecasts More Monsoon Rains with Flash Flood Risks Across Pakistan
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a fresh forecast warning of continued monsoon rains along with wind and thunderstorms. These conditions are expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, and northeastern Balochistan on Tuesday. Officials caution that isolated heavy to very heavy falls may trigger urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable zones.
Southern parts of the country, including most districts of Sindh and Balochistan, are likely to stay hot and humid. Only isolated rain with wind and thundershowers may appear in places like Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Dera Bugti and nearby areas.
Heavy rainfall on Tuesday could flood low-lying areas in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, the Potohar region, Peshawar and Nowshera. Landslides remain a serious concern in the hilly areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa such as Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Buner, Battagram, Mansehra, Shangla and Abbottabad, plus Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
Flash floods may also hit local streams and nullahs in Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, the Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.
In Islamabad and nearby areas, partly cloudy skies with rain, wind and thunderstorms are expected, including chances of isolated heavy downpours. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will see rain with wind and thundershowers plus isolated heavy falls across many districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Peshawar, Mardan and Waziristan.
Punjab districts such as Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Sargodha are also in line for similar weather, while southern districts stay hot and humid. Cloudy conditions with rain and isolated heavy rainfall will cover Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan as well.
Over the past 24 hours, rain with wind and thundershowers already hit parts of Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. Faisalabad recorded the highest rainfall at 77 mm, followed by Sialkot city at 73 mm, Bahawalpur city at 64 mm, Gujrat at 54 mm and Mandi Bahauddin at 49 mm. The hottest temperature reached 45 degrees Celsius in Dalbandin.
Residents in affected regions should stay alert and follow official updates closely as the monsoon rains continue.
