KARACHI: A judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza murder has formally started its proceedings and summoned key parties for a hearing scheduled for August 28.
The commission has issued notices to Mir Raza’s family, their lawyer Jibran Nasir, and the Sindh government’s focal person. The hearing is expected to address the circumstances surrounding the young businessman’s death and the concerns raised by his family over the inquiry.
Nasir, who represents the deceased’s family, had earlier opposed the formation of the judicial commission. He argued that the panel was established without consulting the family and said its terms of reference had not been publicly disclosed.
The commission has been directed to prepare its findings within 30 days. According to the notification establishing the panel, its responsibilities include examining the constitutional and legal aspects of the investigation, determining the facts surrounding the death and ensuring transparency throughout the process.
Meanwhile, Mir Raza’s family has challenged the formation of the commission before the Sindh High Court. The family has maintained that establishing a separate inquiry at this stage could negatively affect the ongoing case.
Mir Raza, an IBA graduate and businessman, went missing in Karachi on July 28. His body was later found in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. His father has repeatedly rejected claims that his son died by suicide and has maintained that he was murdered.
The postmortem examination also raised questions about the circumstances of his death. According to the medical report, Mir Raza had suffered a gunshot wound to the back, along with multiple injuries and signs of violence.
The report documented injuries to his feet, a fracture and a roughly 12-centimetre injury to his right thigh, as well as a deep injury and fracture around the jaw. These findings have added to the family’s concerns and their demand for a transparent investigation into the Mir Raza murder.
