The MH370 Search will continue for another year after the Malaysian government announced an extension of its agreement with exploration company Ocean Infinity until June 30, 2027. The decision reflects Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to finding the missing aircraft and providing long awaited answers to the families of the 239 passengers and crew who disappeared more than a decade ago.
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, a Boeing 777, vanished from radar on March 8, 2014, while traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The aircraft was carrying passengers from several countries, including China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, India, the United States, France, and the Netherlands. Despite becoming the subject of the largest search operation in aviation history, the aircraft has never been located, making it one of the world’s greatest aviation mysteries.
Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed that the extension keeps all existing terms of the agreement with Ocean Infinity. Under the no find, no fee arrangement, the company will receive 70 million dollars only if the wreckage of the aircraft is successfully found.
The extended agreement will allow Ocean Infinity to complete the search across the remaining 7,428 square kilometres of the designated search zone. According to the minister, some of the company’s search vessels and equipment have been temporarily assigned to other commercial projects. Because of this, the search will be rescheduled between November 2026 and April 2027, when calmer sea conditions provide the safest and most effective opportunity for underwater operations.
Earlier search missions conducted in 2018 and the latest campaign that began in March 2025 ended without success. Families of many Chinese passengers have continued to express frustration over limited updates regarding the search progress while also acknowledging the complexity of the operation.
Although the mystery of MH370 remains unsolved, the latest extension offers renewed hope that advanced technology and continued international cooperation may finally uncover the aircraft’s final resting place and bring closure to grieving families.
