Karachi Traffic Plan Announced for Chehlum Procession
The Karachi Traffic Police has released a detailed traffic management plan for the central Chehlum procession scheduled for Tuesday. Several major roads will remain closed to ensure smooth movement of participants and maintain public safety.
According to the official announcement, the central Chehlum procession will start from Nishtar Park at 9am. MA Jinnah Road will stay completely closed to regular traffic throughout the event. Vehicles heading from Saddar towards Tower will be diverted via Preedy Street and II Chundrigar Road. Additional diversions will apply near Lighthouse, Empress Market, Regal Chowk and Tibet Centre.
Traffic coming from Shahrah-e-Quaideen will be redirected through Kashmir Road and People’s Chowrangi. Motorists arriving from Korangi, Landhi and the National Highway will use Rashid Minhas Road and the Super Highway instead. Those travelling from Nazimabad can reach their destinations via Lasbela, Garden and Nishtar Road. Vehicles from Liaquatabad will be diverted at Lasbela Chowk towards Nazimabad No 10.
Traffic from Hassan Square will follow Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Society Light Signal and Teen Hatti before reaching Lasbela Chowk. Motorists on Shahrah-e-Faisal will be guided through Society Light Signal and Sher Shah Suri Road. People heading from Jamshed Road towards Guru Mandir have been advised to use Bahadur Yar Jang Road or Soldier Bazaar Road as alternate routes.
Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter the city from 10am until the procession ends. Parking of any kind is strictly banned along the entire procession route. Any vehicle found parked in restricted areas will be immediately towed away by the authorities.
The Chehlum will be observed on August 4 with full religious devotion and under heightened security. This day marks the end of the 40-day mourning period for Hazrat Imam Hussain and the martyrs of Karbala. Mourning processions carrying Alam, Tazia and Zuljinah will also take place in several other cities across the province.
Residents and motorists are requested to follow the traffic plan carefully, plan extra travel time and cooperate with the police for a safe and orderly event.
