NEW DELHI: Indian youth protests are gaining momentum as thousands of students prepare for nationwide demonstrations against the Modi government over the medical entrance exam paper leak scandal. Protesters continue to demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, accusing the government of failing to protect the integrity of India’s education system.
The movement, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), began after the leak of medical entrance examination papers that affected nearly 2 million students. The controversy has triggered widespread anger across the country, with many students claiming the repeated exam irregularities have destroyed trust in the examination process and negatively impacted their future.
To control the demonstrations, authorities have imposed strict security measures in New Delhi. Mobile internet services have been suspended in central parts of the city, while several metro stations have been closed to limit the movement of protesters. The restrictions have also disrupted businesses, as vendors, restaurants, and shopkeepers struggled to accept digital payments due to the internet shutdown.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged protesters to participate in dialogue while promising tougher action against those responsible for examination fraud. He announced plans to establish fast track courts to speed up legal proceedings against individuals involved in paper leaks. However, protest leaders rejected the proposal, arguing that punishment alone will not solve the problem. They insist the government must identify and eliminate the causes behind repeated exam leaks before public confidence can be restored.
The opposition has also increased pressure on the government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the administration of damaging India’s education system and demanded the immediate dismissal of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He also called for accountability over the police response to recent demonstrations, where clashes left more than 170 people injured, including security personnel.
What started as an online satirical campaign has now evolved into one of the largest youth movements India has witnessed in recent years. Beyond exam paper leaks, protesters are raising concerns about unemployment, education reforms, and greater transparency in government institutions. With nationwide rallies planned, the demonstrations continue to pose a significant political challenge for the Modi government.
