Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan underwent a detailed medical examination at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi as concerns regarding his health continued to grow. According to jail sources, a team of doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) visited the prison to carry out the check-up and assess his overall condition.

The medical team included Dr Muhammad Ali Arif and Professor Nadeem Qureshi, who reportedly spent nearly one and a half hours inside the jail conducting examinations. Sources stated that special attention was given to Imran Khan’s eye condition, with doctors performing a follow up assessment during the visit. His general health was also reviewed before the medical team departed.

Officials said the doctors would submit a formal medical report to the Islamabad commissioner after completing the examination process.

The development came shortly after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was denied permission to meet the jailed PTI leader. Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Afridi criticised the authorities and called the restrictions “discriminatory.” He said PTI members had attempted to meet Imran Khan peacefully but were stopped despite maintaining calm behaviour.

Afridi stressed that access to family members, lawyers, and personal doctors was a basic human right for the former premier. He further claimed that Imran Khan was suffering from a serious eye issue and should be allowed treatment at a hospital of his own choice.

Meanwhile, heavy traffic congestion was reported in Islamabad after authorities blocked roads near 26 Number Chungi to stop PTI leaders from moving toward Adiala Jail. Long lines of vehicles remained stuck for hours, causing major inconvenience for commuters and passengers travelling to Islamabad airport. Reports also suggested that an ambulance became trapped in the severe traffic gridlock.

Imran Khan has remained in jail since August 2023 in several legal cases that he maintains are politically motivated. Court proceedings and appeals in multiple cases are still ongoing.
