The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has called on Iran to resume full cooperation with international inspectors as tensions over its nuclear programme continue to rise. The appeal comes as the United States, United Kingdom, France, and Germany push for a new resolution demanding greater transparency regarding Iran’s nuclear activities.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stressed the importance of restoring communication and cooperation between the agency and Tehran. According to Grossi, inspections at several Iranian nuclear sites remain limited following military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel in 2025. These attacks reportedly damaged key uranium enrichment facilities, but concerns remain about the location and condition of highly enriched uranium that may have survived the strikes.

The nuclear watchdog has repeatedly requested detailed information regarding Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles and the status of affected facilities. Grossi emphasized that effective monitoring and verification are essential for maintaining international confidence in the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme.

Meanwhile, Western powers have submitted a draft resolution to the IAEA Board of Governors. The proposal calls on Iran to provide complete information about its nuclear material and allow inspectors unrestricted access to verify its activities without delay. Diplomats expect the resolution to receive significant support during the upcoming vote.

Iran, however, has strongly criticized the move. Iranian officials argue that responsibility for the damage caused by military attacks should not be shifted onto Tehran. They also warned that continued pressure and confrontation could undermine diplomatic efforts and make future cooperation more difficult.

The situation remains sensitive as regional tensions continue. Recent military exchanges between Israel and Iran have further complicated diplomatic discussions. Despite these challenges, international leaders continue to seek a path toward dialogue and stability.

The outcome of the upcoming IAEA vote could play a major role in shaping future negotiations and determining whether Iran and international powers can rebuild trust and resume meaningful cooperation on nuclear oversight.
