Hina Javed murder case has taken a new turn after a DNA report summary revealed matches linked to her husband Faisal Asghar and domestic worker Zeeshan Arshad. The findings have prompted the victim’s family to once again demand a transparent and impartial investigation.
According to the report details, Faisal’s DNA matched at four different locations. Zeeshan’s DNA was reportedly found in material recovered from under Hina’s fingernails. Faisal’s fingerprints also appeared on the victim’s neck, her clothes, a room door handle and a sheet used at the crime scene.
These results do not by themselves prove guilt. Investigators and courts will still need to examine how the biological material came to be present and what weight the evidence carries.
Hina’s brother Fahad Javed has voiced strong doubts about the police probe. He claims investigators are trying to shift the entire blame onto Zeeshan while downplaying other findings. The family has urged the Punjab government to form a judicial commission for an independent inquiry.
In response to the concerns, the Punjab Crime Control Department has started a fresh investigation on the orders of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. A team headed by Additional Inspector General Sohail Zafar Chattha is reviewing the DNA report, post-mortem findings, crime scene evidence and the earlier police work.
The team has also looked into possible lapses in the initial investigation and questioned officers involved. Fahad Javed and his lawyer Shah Khawar shared their concerns with the new team, which has assured them the case will be handled fairly and on merit.
Hina, 45, was found dead in the bathroom of her home in Rawalpindi’s Lal Kurti area on August 21. Her brother registered the case at Civil Lines police station, alleging she had suffered violence before her death. The post-mortem showed a fractured neck bone, injuries to the ribs and hip, and blood around the heart. The exact cause of death was not confirmed at first, leading to further forensic tests.
Police have arrested both Faisal and Zeeshan. Hina’s father-in-law was also named in the probe. Earlier claims that Faisal offered money to the domestic worker remain under investigation. The CCD team is now examining telephone records, the alleged weapon and other forensic material. A final report is expected once all pending results are received.
