Germany made a powerful statement at the FIFA World Cup 2026 by defeating tournament debutants Curacao 7-1 in a commanding Group E performance at Houston Stadium. The four-time world champions displayed their attacking quality from start to finish, while Curacao celebrated a historic milestone despite the heavy defeat.

The match got off to a dream start for Germany when Felix Nmecha scored after just six minutes, recording the fastest goal of the tournament so far. Germany continued to control possession and create opportunities, showing why they are considered one of the strongest contenders for the World Cup title.

Although Germany dominated the early stages, Curacao produced a memorable moment in the 21st minute. Livano Comenencia scored the nation’s first-ever World Cup goal, sending their supporters into celebration and briefly leveling the score. The goal marked a historic achievement for the Caribbean nation, which became the smallest country by population and land area to compete in a FIFA World Cup finals tournament.

Germany quickly regained control. Nico Schlotterbeck restored the lead with a well-placed header before Kai Havertz converted a penalty to make it 3-1 before halftime. After the break, Germany increased the pressure and never looked back.

Jamal Musiala extended the advantage early in the second half, while Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav added further goals as Curacao struggled to contain the relentless German attack. Havertz completed his impressive performance by scoring his second goal of the match to seal a convincing 7-1 victory.

German coach Julian Nagelsmann praised his team’s overall display and emphasized the importance of starting the tournament with a win. Meanwhile, Curacao coach Dick Advocaat, who became the oldest coach in World Cup history at 78, remained proud of his players despite the result.

The victory gives Germany an ideal start to their World Cup campaign and sends a clear warning to their rivals that they are serious contenders for football’s biggest prize.
