Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called on the people of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) to give his party a decisive mandate in the upcoming elections, stressing that a strong majority is essential to protect the region’s rights and secure land ownership for local residents.

Addressing a large public gathering in Ghizer as part of his election campaign, Bilawal emphasized that the voice of Gilgit Baltistan must be heard before any major constitutional decisions regarding the region are made. He said the people of GB deserve representation that can effectively advocate for their interests at the national level.

The PPP chairman highlighted the issue of land ownership rights, describing it as one of the most important challenges facing the region. According to Bilawal, a PPP-led government in Gilgit Baltistan would prioritize legislation aimed at ensuring that local residents receive legal ownership rights over their land. He argued that without a clear majority, it would be difficult to pass the necessary laws.

Bilawal stated that a dedicated PPP chief minister is needed to safeguard the interests of the people and move forward with reforms that directly benefit local communities. He maintained that other political parties may not support the legislation proposed by the PPP, making a strong electoral mandate crucial for achieving the party’s objectives.

The PPP leader also spoke about the importance of empowering local communities and ensuring that cultivable land benefits the people who live and work in the region. He said meaningful reforms could only be achieved through a stable government backed by public support.

Gilgit Baltistan is preparing for elections on June 7, when voters will elect members of the region’s fourth Legislative Assembly. More than 963,000 registered voters are expected to participate, reflecting a significant increase compared to previous elections. The upcoming vote is being closely watched as political parties intensify their campaigns across the region, focusing on governance, development, and constitutional rights.

Bilawal’s message centered on securing a strong public mandate that would allow the PPP to pursue its legislative agenda and address long-standing concerns of the people of Gilgit Baltistan.
