Australia claimed a record breaking seventh ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title after defeating England by seven wickets in a commanding final at a sold out Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday. The defending champions comfortably chased a target of 151 runs, sealing victory with 17 balls remaining.
Australia’s successful chase was built around an outstanding partnership between Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield. Mooney played a match winning knock of 64 runs from 49 balls, while Litchfield contributed a brilliant 48 runs, adding exactly 100 runs for the second wicket. Their partnership put Australia firmly in control and left England struggling to make a comeback.
Earlier, England posted 150 for 4 after being asked to bat. Captain Nat Sciver Brunt remained unbeaten on 58, while Freya Kemp scored 44 not out. The pair shared an unbeaten 80 run partnership to rescue England after the team had slipped to 70 for 4.
Australia’s disciplined bowling attack laid the foundation for victory. Kim Garth and Lucy Hamilton kept England under pressure with economical spells, while Australia’s sharp fielding prevented the hosts from building momentum throughout the innings.
England entered the final unbeaten and hoped to win their first major ICC title since 2017. However, Australia’s experience and depth proved too strong, extending their incredible record in world finals against their biggest rivals.
The victory also maintained Australia’s perfect record against England in ICC women’s world finals across both ODI and T20 formats. The latest triumph further strengthens Australia’s position as the most successful team in women’s international cricket.
With another global trophy added to their collection, Australia once again demonstrated why they remain the dominant force in women’s cricket, delivering a complete performance in batting, bowling, and fielding to secure yet another historic World Cup title.
