Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand is set to arrive in Pakistan on Monday for her first official visit since assuming office. The visit comes at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, reflecting both countries’ commitment to strengthening Pakistan Canada relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors.
According to the Foreign Office (FO), Anita Anand and Ishaq Dar will hold comprehensive bilateral talks covering the full spectrum of relations between the two countries. The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, education, and people to people exchanges, while also exploring new opportunities for economic and diplomatic cooperation.
The two foreign ministers will also exchange views on important regional and global developments, highlighting shared interests in international peace, stability, and economic growth. During her visit, the Canadian foreign minister is also scheduled to meet Pakistan’s senior leadership to further strengthen diplomatic engagement.
The Canadian government has described the visit as a significant milestone in bilateral ties, noting that it is the first visit by a Canadian foreign minister to Pakistan in nearly two decades. Ottawa believes the visit will help deepen Canada’s strategic partnerships in the Indo Pacific region while promoting stronger cooperation with Pakistan.
Relations between Pakistan and Canada continue to be supported by strong people to people connections, particularly through the vibrant Pakistani diaspora. More than 300,000 Canadians of Pakistani origin live in Canada, while nearly 20,000 Canadian citizens currently reside in Pakistan, contributing to stronger cultural and economic ties.
Trade between the two countries has also shown steady growth. According to Canadian government figures, bilateral merchandise trade reached approximately $1.2 billion in 2025, with Canadian exports to Pakistan increasing significantly compared to the previous year. The two countries are also working toward a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, with the second round of negotiations held in June 2026, reflecting continued efforts to encourage investment and strengthen long term economic cooperation.
