Former federal minister Senator Pervaiz Rasheed has stirred political discussion by claiming that former Prime Minister Imran Khan attempted to extend the tenure of his preferred candidate for army chief. Speaking in the Senate, Rasheed emphasized that the merit-based appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir as Chief of Defence Forces has ultimately proven to be the right decision for the country.

Rasheed highlighted that Pakistan is currently enjoying increased global recognition, with international leaders acknowledging the country’s growing diplomatic influence. He noted that this positive image is the result of strong leadership and strategic decision-making at the highest levels.

Reflecting on past political developments, Rasheed mentioned that during Nawaz Sharif’s tenure, Pakistan experienced economic growth, but the government faced significant political challenges, including widespread protests. Despite those hurdles, he suggested that the country remained on a progressive path.

The senator also praised Pakistan’s active diplomatic role on the global stage. He pointed out that the country has successfully acted as a mediator between the United States and Iran, as well as maintaining a balancing role in relations involving major powers like the United States and China. According to Rasheed, such efforts reflect Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to peace and stability.

He congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their historic contributions in promoting dialogue and preventing conflict. Rasheed stressed that Pakistan’s leadership has demonstrated the ability to navigate complex international challenges with responsibility and foresight.

The senator concluded his remarks on a hopeful note, linking recent clear weather after unseasonal rains to a broader sense of optimism and stability in the country. He expressed confidence that Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in global diplomacy and strengthen its position on the international stage.
