Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Sherry Rehman has made it clear that parliamentary sessions will remain incomplete until the party’s outstanding concerns with the PML-N-led government are properly addressed. She shared this position while speaking to the media after a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in his chamber on Tuesday.
The meeting brought together senior leaders from both PPP and PML-N. The PPP side included Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Farooq H Naik and Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar. From the PML-N side, Senator Rana Sanaullah and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry attended the discussions.
Speaking outside the speaker’s chamber, Sherry Rehman said regular consultations take place regarding parliamentary business. She noted that the current session is nearing its end and the differences between the coalition partners must be discussed openly. “We have differences among ourselves, which is a clear fact,” she stated. The senator emphasised that the PPP had not come only to complete the quorum. The party wants real resolution of the issues.
Rehman stressed that if the two parties are working together in a coalition, then mutual respect within the alliance is essential. “Until the issues are resolved, the sessions will remain incomplete,” she said firmly. Her comments come shortly after PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari warned that the party would withhold cooperation and legislation support until its legitimate concerns, including those related to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, are addressed.
Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab described the meeting as a routine interaction between long-time coalition partners. He said both sides always discuss problems with the intention of finding solutions. Farooq H Naik added that the atmosphere of the meeting was positive and pleasant, noting that “everything is fine.”
Meanwhile, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq commented on the broader political situation. He said the government had repeatedly invited Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for talks but had grown tired of unanswered invitations. The speaker also clarified that bringing a no-confidence motion is the opposition’s constitutional right and any such move would be handled according to the law.
The latest developments highlight ongoing tensions within the ruling alliance as PPP continues to press for its concerns to be taken seriously before full parliamentary cooperation can resume.
