Muslims throughout Pakistan are marking Eid Milad Nabi today with deep religious fervour and heartfelt devotion. The blessed occasion of 12th Rabi ul Awal is being observed with special prayers, processions and community gatherings to honour the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The day started with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in the provincial capitals. After Fajr prayers, people offered special duas seeking unity of the Muslim Ummah along with peace, progress and prosperity for the country. The government has declared August 26 a public holiday nationwide.
Streets, buildings, mosques and homes across the country are beautifully decorated with green flags, buntings and colourful lights. Milad processions are being organised in major cities by religious groups, Milad committees and community organisations. Seminars and Mahafil-e-Milad are also taking place where scholars highlight the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
As a beautiful tradition of the day, people are distributing sweets and food in markets, orphanages and neighbourhoods, spreading the message of charity and kindness.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued separate messages on this sacred occasion. Both leaders urged the youth to take guidance from the Seerat of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). They emphasised high moral character, hard work and service to humanity as the true purpose of life. The leaders also called for justice, tolerance and interfaith harmony in society.
An International Seerat-un-Nabi Conference is being held in Islamabad under the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The theme focuses on the protection, development and character building of the younger generation in the light of the Prophet’s teachings. Scholars, researchers, parliamentarians and guests from different Islamic countries are participating and sharing valuable insights.
The National Assembly has also passed a resolution encouraging nationwide programmes, decoration of roads and active participation by educational institutions and the media. The resolution stresses peace, tolerance and brotherhood according to the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
Eid Milad Nabi continues to unite hearts across Pakistan as people renew their commitment to the Sunnah and the noble example of the Prophet who was sent as a mercy for all humanity.
