Shan and Imam Lead Strong Pakistan Fightback in Opening Test
Shan Masood and Imam-ul-Haq guided Pakistan to a solid recovery on day two of the first Test against the West Indies. The pair put together a fluent 155-run partnership for the second wicket as the tourists reached 199 for three at stumps in Tarouba, trailing by 112 runs.
Pakistan’s innings began poorly when opener Azan Awais was clean bowled by Kemar Roach for a duck. The early breakthrough put the visitors under pressure, but Shan and Imam responded with calm and positive batting at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
Shan Masood played with authority, finding the boundary regularly and reaching his 15th Test half-century. He remained unbeaten on 88 from 137 balls with 11 fours at the close. Imam-ul-Haq offered solid support, scoring a gritty 63 off 102 deliveries that included seven fours before he was dismissed by Shamar Joseph. Their 155-run stand helped Pakistan regain control and put the West Indies attack under sustained pressure.
After Imam’s departure, returning captain Babar Azam joined Shan and added a useful 41 runs. Babar made a composed 23 before Jayden Seales removed him, leaving Pakistan at 197 for three. Salman Ali Agha was not out on zero at the other end as stumps were drawn.
Earlier, the West Indies were bowled out for 311 in their first innings. Shai Hope top-scored with a fluent 92, while Kevlon Hodge made a resilient 84. Pakistan’s bowlers kept them in check throughout, with Mohammad Ali claiming an outstanding four wickets for 50 runs. Mohammad Abbas took three wickets and Khurram Shahzad picked up two as the bowling unit showed discipline.
Pakistan will resume on day three still trailing but in a much stronger position thanks to the second-wicket partnership. Shan Masood looks well set to convert his half-century into a big score and push the visitors closer to the West Indies total.
