The Venezuela earthquakes have left behind heartbreaking stories of loss, including the tragic death of the wife and two children of Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo. According to reports, Lucas Trejo, who plays for Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira in Venezuela’s second division, was attending a team training camp in Caracas when the powerful earthquakes struck on Wednesday evening. As soon as he learned about the destruction, he rushed back to his hometown of La Guaira, one of the areas most severely affected by the disaster.
Trejo spent three days searching through the rubble in the hope of finding his family alive. Sadly, rescue teams later recovered the bodies of his wife Yanina and their two young children, Aaron and Ainhoa. The heartbreaking discovery has shocked the football community and people around the world.
In an emotional statement shared on Instagram, Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira expressed its deepest condolences to the player and described the loss as irreparable. The club also shared a family photograph in memory of Trejo’s loved ones, with supporters and fellow athletes sending messages of sympathy and support.
Trejo’s brother in law, Ricardo Ardiles, described the devastation that greeted the footballer upon returning home. He said Trejo found almost nothing left of the building where his family had been living, highlighting the scale of destruction caused by the disaster.
Authorities in Venezuela reported that nearly 1,500 people have lost their lives, while tens of thousands remain missing or unaccounted for. Rescue operations continue as emergency workers search collapsed buildings and provide assistance to survivors.
