Pakistan and Turkiye Strengthen Defence Cooperation Through High Level Military Talks

Pakistan and Turkiye have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence ties following a high level meeting between Field Marshal Asim Munir and Commander of Turkish Land Forces General Metin Tokel at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

The visit reflects the strong and long standing relationship between the two brotherly nations, which continue to cooperate closely in defence, security, and strategic affairs. Upon his arrival at the General Headquarters, General Metin Tokel was welcomed with a ceremonial guard of honour presented by a Pakistan Army contingent.

During the meeting, both military leaders discussed regional security dynamics, matters of mutual professional interest, and opportunities to further expand defence cooperation between Pakistan and Turkiye. The discussions focused on strengthening military collaboration and enhancing institutional partnerships between the armed forces of both countries.

Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted the deep historical, cultural, and strategic ties shared by Pakistan and Turkiye. He appreciated the growing defence partnership and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in addressing regional security challenges and promoting stability.

As part of his official visit, General Metin Tokel also met Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on professional matters and discussed the evolving maritime security environment in the region.

The Turkish military commander further visited Air Headquarters where he held talks with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu. Discussions focused on military cooperation, defence collaboration, and professional matters of mutual interest.

According to the military’s media wing, General Metin Tokel praised the professionalism, operational readiness, and dedication of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s valuable contributions towards maintaining regional peace and stability.

The visit concluded with both sides expressing a strong desire to further enhance military cooperation, strengthen strategic partnerships, and deepen defence relations. The engagement highlights the growing importance of Pakistan and Turkiye’s defence collaboration in promoting regional security and mutual interests.
