Paris Saint Germain’s historic Champions League victory sparked massive celebrations across France, but the festive atmosphere quickly turned chaotic as violent clashes broke out in several areas, leading to hundreds of arrests. Authorities had anticipated possible unrest and deployed a large security operation, yet disturbances still occurred as thousands of supporters flooded the streets following PSG’s triumph.
According to French authorities, more than 300 people were detained nationwide, with the majority of arrests taking place in Paris. Around 20,000 supporters gathered on the famous Champs Élysées avenue to celebrate the club’s success, while many others assembled near the Parc des Princes stadium and other public locations throughout the capital.
Police reported that several incidents of vandalism occurred during the celebrations. Six vehicles and two businesses were damaged, while a police officer sustained injuries during efforts to control the crowds. Authorities also confiscated numerous fireworks and flares that were being used during the gatherings.
The situation became more complicated when groups of supporters temporarily blocked parts of the Paris ring road, causing traffic disruptions and safety concerns. Near PSG’s home stadium, thousands of fans remained outside the venue, and some individuals reportedly threw projectiles at police officers. Law enforcement responded with crowd control measures, including the use of tear gas in certain areas where tensions escalated.
Officials had taken preventive steps before the final by closing selected metro stations, suspending some public transport services, and deploying approximately 22,000 police officers across France, including 8,000 in Paris. These measures were introduced to avoid a repeat of previous disturbances linked to major football celebrations.
Despite the unrest, French authorities emphasized their commitment to ensuring public safety during upcoming victory events. PSG players are expected to participate in a celebratory parade in Paris, where tens of thousands of supporters are anticipated to gather. The club’s success remains a landmark achievement, but the violent incidents have also reignited debate about crowd management and security during major sporting celebrations in France.
