FIFA has announced that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will begin with three separate opening ceremonies, one in each of the host nations: Mexico, Canada and the United States. This unique approach will celebrate the culture, music and diversity of all three countries hosting the largest World Cup in history.
The tournament officially starts on June 11 in Mexico City. Legendary Mexican band Maná will headline the opening ceremony, joined by Alejandro Fernández and Belinda. The event will showcase Mexican culture, featuring Indigenous artists and modern folkloric performances.
On June 12, Toronto will host Canada’s opening celebration before its match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The ceremony will feature Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, William Prince and DJ Sanjoy. A special trophy display inspired by a mosaic design will symbolize Canada’s diversity.
Later that day in Los Angeles, Katy Perry will headline the United States ceremony before the US takes on Paraguay. She will be joined by Future, Anitta, LISA, Rema and Tyla.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the second tournament jointly hosted by multiple nations, following the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
