Six people lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash in the Indian Himalayan state of Uttarakhand on Friday. The incident took place while the aircraft was flying from the popular Hindu pilgrimage site of Badrinath to the state capital Dehradun.
According to officials from the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority, the helicopter lost all communication as it flew over the Joshimath valley. At the same moment, the tracking system also stopped receiving signals from the aircraft. All six people on board, including five passengers and the pilot, were killed in the crash.
A joint search and rescue operation was immediately launched by the district administration, disaster management teams and army troops. Local television channels showed rescue teams rushing toward the crash site, where fire and smoke were clearly visible.
The entire fleet of the helicopter operator, Trans Bharat Aviation, has been grounded as a precautionary measure following the accident. Officials said this step was taken to ensure the safety of other flights until a full investigation is completed.
