The conflict between the United States and Iran intensified after both countries exchanged a new wave of missile and drone attacks across the Gulf region, raising fears of a broader regional conflict. The latest escalation has also cast serious doubt over the future of the interim US Iran agreement signed last month, which was intended to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and pave the way for further peace negotiations.

According to reports, Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting US military facilities in several Gulf countries, including Qatar, while also claiming it had once again closed the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The closure has increased concerns over global energy supplies, as nearly one fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments normally pass through the waterway.

In response, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces carried out extensive strikes on hundreds of Iranian military targets. US officials said the operations were aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials condemned the US attacks, calling them an act of aggression. Tehran also accused Washington of undermining diplomatic efforts and influencing ongoing regional negotiations. Meanwhile, Iran’s senior officials insisted that any future agreement would require both sides to fully honour their commitments.

The renewed military exchanges have also affected several Gulf countries. Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, and Oman reported missile or drone incidents, while authorities issued security warnings and advised residents and vessels to remain cautious. Some injuries were also reported due to falling debris from intercepted projectiles.

The continuing conflict has pushed global oil prices higher and increased uncertainty in international markets. Analysts warn that prolonged instability around the Strait of Hormuz could significantly disrupt global energy supplies and international trade. Despite the growing violence, both sides have indicated that diplomatic negotiations remain possible, although the path toward de escalation has become increasingly uncertain.
