A tragic boat accident at Saifullah Lake in Swat claimed the lives of seven tourists, while two others were rescued after their boat overturned during a recreational trip. Rescue officials confirmed that emergency teams responded immediately after receiving reports of the incident and launched a large-scale search and rescue operation.
According to Rescue 1122 Swat, rescuers recovered seven bodies from the lake and shifted them, along with the two rescued tourists, to Kalam Hospital. Ambulances and emergency personnel reached the site within a short time to assist in the rescue efforts and transport the victims for medical examination.
Earlier, the district administration had reported that five bodies had been recovered while search teams continued looking for the remaining missing tourists. As the rescue operation progressed, officials successfully recovered all seven victims from the water. Authorities have not yet released complete details about what caused the boat to capsize, and an investigation is expected to determine the circumstances behind the tragedy.
The incident has once again raised concerns about tourist safety at popular destinations in northern Pakistan. Every year, thousands of visitors travel to Swat Valley to enjoy its scenic rivers and lakes. However, sudden weather changes, deep waters, strong currents and inadequate safety precautions continue to pose serious risks for tourists.
This is not the first drowning incident reported in the region. Last month, two women and a young girl from the same family were swept away by the Swat River in Malakand after the child slipped into the water. Rescue teams recovered one body and rescued another woman, but the young girl remained missing.
Authorities have repeatedly urged tourists to follow water safety guidelines, avoid overcrowded boats, wear life jackets and stay away from dangerous sections of rivers and lakes. Officials believe greater awareness, stricter safety measures and proper boating regulations are essential to prevent similar tragedies in the future and ensure visitors can enjoy the region safely.
