A Ryanair flight traveling from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, was forced to return shortly after takeoff after a passenger window was damaged during the flight, causing a sudden cabin decompression. The frightening incident left one passenger with minor injuries and shocked everyone on board.

According to airline officials and witness accounts, a Serbian passenger seated next to the damaged window was partially pulled toward the opening after the window became detached. Fortunately, the passenger was wearing a seat belt, preventing a more serious tragedy. Nearby travelers quickly reacted and helped pull him safely back into his seat.

Passengers described hearing a loud explosion similar to a tire bursting before oxygen masks automatically dropped from the cabin ceiling. Many initially feared an emergency exit had opened because of the sudden loss of cabin pressure. A strong odor also spread through the aircraft as the crew responded to the emergency.

Local media in Greece reported that a piece of debris from one of the aircraft’s engines may have struck the window while the plane was flying over North Macedonia, damaging it and triggering the decompression. However, aviation authorities are expected to conduct a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.

In an official statement, Ryanair confirmed that the aircraft safely returned to Thessaloniki Airport, where it landed without further complications. Emergency teams attended to the injured passenger, who was later treated at a hospital for friction burns and was reported to be in stable condition.

The airline arranged a replacement aircraft to transport the remaining passengers to their destination in Memmingen after the affected aircraft was taken out of service for inspection.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about aircraft safety and maintenance procedures. Aviation experts will now examine the aircraft to determine what caused the window damage and whether additional safety measures are needed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
