The Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced that he will once again consult Shehbaz Sharif regarding the possibility of allowing fans back into stadiums during the ongoing Pakistan Super League Season 11.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Naqvi emphasized that the PCB is making every effort to restore the vibrant stadium atmosphere that fans bring to the tournament. However, he also highlighted the importance of carefully evaluating the ongoing global crisis, particularly the situation in the Middle East, before making any final decision.
Earlier, the government had decided to conduct PSL 11 matches without spectators as part of austerity measures. These steps were taken to manage the impact of the global fuel crisis and to reduce unnecessary public movement. As a result, the tournament was limited to just two venues, Karachi and Lahore, ensuring smoother logistics and lower operational costs.
Despite these restrictions, several franchise owners have strongly advocated for the return of crowds. They believe that the presence of fans is essential to maintaining the energy, excitement, and identity of the league. Their appeals have been directed toward both federal and provincial leadership to reconsider the decision.
Naqvi praised law enforcement agencies for ensuring that the tournament has been conducted smoothly under challenging conditions. He reassured stakeholders that while discussions about allowing spectators are ongoing, there will be no changes to the PSL schedule.
Additionally, the PCB chairman confirmed that franchises will still receive gate revenue, with the board taking responsibility for covering associated expenses. Looking ahead, Naqvi also revealed plans to review and possibly rebuild the National Bank Cricket Arena to enhance facilities and improve the overall fan experience.
The final decision now rests on government approval, but the PCB remains hopeful that fans may soon return to stadiums, bringing life back to PSL 11
