Pakistani amateur golfer Omar Khalid Hussain has etched his name into the country’s sporting history by becoming the first amateur golfer to win the overall Sindh Open Golf Championship title. His remarkable performance at the 2026 Sindh Open Golf Championship, held at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club (DACGC) in Karachi, saw him outperform several experienced professional golfers.
Omar delivered an outstanding display throughout the 54 hole tournament, finishing with an impressive seven under par score. His exceptional consistency earned him the overall championship title, finishing two strokes ahead of leading professional Minhaj Maqsood, who secured the professional category title with five under par. Veteran golfer Matloob Ahmed claimed second place among the professionals after finishing at four under par.
In the amateur division, Sharan Ali Khan secured second place, while Syed Rayan Ahmed finished third, completing a competitive championship that highlighted Pakistan’s emerging golf talent.
This latest triumph adds another milestone to Omar Khalid’s already impressive career. At just 16 years of age, he became the youngest player to win the Pakistan National Amateur Golf Championship before later becoming Pakistan’s youngest number one amateur golfer.
Omar has also made history internationally. He remains the only Pakistani golfer to win a professional tournament in the United States after capturing the Fendrich Open title in Indiana with a remarkable 14 under par performance. Currently competing in NCAA Division I golf, he recently became the first Pakistani golfer to earn NCAA All Conference honours following an outstanding finish at the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championship.
His achievements also include becoming the first Pakistani golfer to make the cut at a United States Golf Association (USGA) event and representing Pakistan at prestigious competitions, including the Asian Games, Asia Pacific Amateur Championship, and the World Amateur Team Championship. Omar’s continued success reflects the growing potential of Pakistani golf on the international stage.
