Nawaz Sharif has made a strong pitch for PML-N in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, promising major development if the party wins the upcoming elections. While addressing a large gathering in Muzaffarabad, the PML-N president made some eye-catching remarks to energize party workers.
Nawaz Sharif jokingly said he would request Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to appoint him as the prime minister of AJK if PML-N secures victory in the polls. He was accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz as they officially launched the party’s election campaign ahead of the phased AJK elections starting July 27.
Speaking emotionally, Nawaz told the crowd it had been a long time since he last visited the region. He described Azad Kashmir as his second home and declared it as dear to him as Punjab. He questioned why a motorway between Kohala and Muzaffarabad had not been built yet and pledged to personally visit AJK every three months to monitor development projects if PML-N forms the government.
The PML-N president promised a tenfold increase in the AJK budget and vowed to launch large-scale infrastructure and public welfare projects similar to those in Punjab. He highlighted that the party had previously doubled the budget for the region during his tenure as Prime Minister of Pakistan. Nawaz also announced the arrival of 10 electric air-conditioned green buses and 15 mobile hospitals for Muzaffarabad in the coming days.
Maryam Nawaz addressed the rally with passion, declaring herself a true Kashmiri by blood, heart, and soul. She announced 2,000 scholarships and laptops for the youth of AJK. The Punjab Chief Minister shared Punjab’s development success and promised to extend initiatives like housing, cleanliness drives, and the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” project to the region. She also requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to launch a “Suthra Azad Kashmir” cleanliness project.
Both leaders urged voters to support PML-N to bring real change and transform the destiny of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The rally has significantly boosted the party’s election campaign in the region.
