Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption as the ongoing Middle East conflict continues to disrupt global oil supplies and increase energy prices. Speaking at a public gathering in Telangana, Modi encouraged people to adopt fuel saving habits and support measures that can help India manage rising import costs.

India has so far avoided increasing petrol and diesel prices for local consumers despite the growing pressure on international fuel markets. However, the government recently raised prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) after tensions in the Middle East affected oil transportation routes, especially near the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Modi advised people living in cities with metro systems to make greater use of public transportation instead of relying on private cars. He also encouraged citizens to practice carpooling whenever possible to cut down fuel consumption and reduce traffic congestion.

The Indian prime minister highlighted that reducing petrol and diesel usage would also help save valuable foreign exchange reserves, as global oil prices continue to rise because of geopolitical instability. According to Modi, India must act responsibly during this period of uncertainty and focus on long term energy conservation.

He further suggested reviving some of the habits adopted during the Covid pandemic. Modi recommended increased use of work from home, virtual meetings, online conferences, and digital communication tools to lower unnecessary travel and fuel usage. He said these steps can help businesses continue operating efficiently while also conserving energy resources.

The ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly after recent military strikes involving Iran, have raised concerns across global markets. Countries dependent on imported oil, including India, are closely monitoring the situation as disruptions in shipping routes threaten fuel availability and prices worldwide.

Modi’s message reflects India’s effort to maintain economic stability while encouraging citizens to participate in national energy saving efforts during a challenging global crisis.
