The city of Shreveport is in a state of deep mourning following a horrific shooting spree that claimed the lives of eight children early Sunday morning. Authorities in the southern US state of Louisiana have described the event as a catastrophic incident of domestic violence. The victims, whose lives were cut tragically short, ranged in age from as young as one to 14 years old. Police officials confirmed that the crime scene is extensive, spanning at least two residences, with investigators still combing a third location for evidence.
According to police Corporal Chris Bordelon, the suspect was the sole individual responsible for the gunfire at these locations. He further noted that some of the young victims were the direct descendants of the gunman. The violence didn’t end at the homes; the suspect reportedly carjacked a vehicle and led law enforcement on a high-speed chase. The pursuit concluded only after officers opened fire, resulting in the fatal shooting of the assailant. While the gunman’s identity has not been publicly released, officials are confident that the immediate threat has been neutralized.
In addition to the eight fatalities, two other people were struck by gunfire during the rampage. Their current medical conditions remain unknown as they receive emergency treatment. Mayor Tom Arceneaux expressed the collective grief of the community during a press conference, stating that it was a “terrible morning” for the city.
