Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday for an official visit at the invitation of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The visit highlights the strong diplomatic relationship between Pakistan and Kuwait and is expected to strengthen cooperation across several important sectors.
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both countries will hold high level discussions covering the full spectrum of bilateral relations. The agenda includes cooperation in trade, investment, energy, defence, regional security, and international affairs. Officials from both sides are also expected to exchange views on current regional developments and matters of mutual interest.
The Foreign Office stated that the visit reflects the longstanding brotherly ties between Pakistan and Kuwait, built on shared history, mutual trust, and close cooperation. These relations have continued to grow over the years through regular diplomatic engagement and collaboration in various fields.
Upon his arrival at Islamabad International Airport, the Kuwaiti foreign minister was welcomed by Additional Secretary for the Middle East Zahid Hussain. During his stay, Sheikh Al Sabah is also expected to hold meetings with Pakistan’s top leadership, where discussions will focus on enhancing strategic cooperation and exploring new opportunities for partnership.
The visit comes shortly after reports suggested that Pakistan and Kuwait are discussing an expanded defence cooperation agreement. According to media reports, the proposed arrangement could involve broader military collaboration in exchange for increased energy cooperation and investment opportunities. Pakistan and Kuwait already maintain a defence partnership that began in 2023, focusing on military training and joint exercises.
Although officials have not confirmed the details of the ongoing negotiations, the current visit is seen as an important step toward strengthening political, economic, and security relations. Analysts believe that closer cooperation between the two countries could create new opportunities for investment, defence collaboration, energy partnerships, and regional stability, further deepening the friendly relationship between Pakistan and Kuwait.
